Updates: Painting Projects

Not too long ago I posted some pictures of some painting projects my mom and I did while she was out here helping us move. I figured I would add to that here with a few more before and after pictures. These first few are from our former apartment, but I never got to share them, so this was our master bathroom re-paint.

We first painted a small part of the wall the lighter color, but it looked similar to the white that we had, so we painted it the darker color. Although it doesn't look so bad here, the darker color was way more teal-looking than we wanted. So, we then re-painted the original light color, and we chose an even darker shade for the vanity for more contrast. I wish I had more finished-looking shots, but here's the result.

We changed out the bathroom hardware, too, to some blue and white ceramic knobs, which, since moving, we have re-used on our kitchen pantry. This was one of my larger purchases, as I have a hard time spending more than $20 on anything. But, we got the following pantry, sewing table, lamp, and footstool for roughly $100 at a local antique shop, which I hope to post more about later.

We re-purposed the sewing table to give us more prep space. The varnish was peeling away all over, so my mom and I sanded it down and scraped off all the varnish before painting it.

Our kitchen looks like it has lots of cabinet space, but the cabinets are so high even I had a hard time reaching things, so this footstool works perfectly. And I wanted to do something to make this more interesting, so I copied this post (on a much smaller scale) from one of my favorite blogs, and I like how it turned out.

We moved from our apartment with all white walls to a house where all walls are either painted or covered with wallpaper, so some of our brightly-colored furniture or art didn't quite work. That is why it looks like I went a little crazy with the cream-colored spray paint. :) For these first few I forgot to get before shots.

This was a gold mirror before, and while I liked it, I think the cream is a nice change:

This lamp was also a brassy-gold color, but the cream makes it look much cleaner. This was an antique store find, and for $12 plus a new shade, I'm quite pleased:

This mirror was one of my garage sale finds in San Diego. It was silver, and I sprayed it this paprika color, which I really liked, but since we don't have neutral walls, it also got the cream color.

I thought that spraying cream over red might make it look pink, so I sprayed it gray first:

And then it took several shades of cream spray paint:

We have it now in our bedroom, above my bedside table/bookshelf (We got rid of our old bedroom set before we moved, and we have yet to replace it. That may be a post coming soon).

So this is some of what I've been up to. I plan to write a post next week on some curtains I made. Happy weekend!
