So here are my long overdue pictures from the Lincoln Park Zoo. After growing up with the San Diego Zoo, nothing really compares, but I never cease to be amazed by the natural world, no matter its location. Here are some highlights:
Although its face is fuzzy in this photo, this leopard's coat is somewhat in focus. Its pattern was so distinct and clear, and I was captivated by the size of those paws.
The patterned ceiling of the cat exhibits was lovely as well.I don't remember the name of this guy, but I think it was Joel that said he looks like the sage of the primates. His expression was quite mysterious and reserved. :)
This was the Makayla Maroney of birds - totally unimpressed by Rick. He stared it down through the glass, and this is the response he got:
This bird makes me laugh every time I see it. There's something far-off in its expression, like it's an old soul, or it's had a really, really long day. :)
This one someone said looks like an Italian chef with a rockin' moustache.
We couldn't get Elda away from the hippo statue...
After the zoo, we walked around downtown a little before Tasha had to leave.
And later that evening we treated ourselves to the best feast we'd had in a while: pumpkin and raspberry scones with Peet's vanilla lattes. The perfect ending to a wonderful trip.
Thanks, Joel and Elda, for hosting us, and thanks, Tasha, for making the trip down to see us!
