A Little Side Work

Recently my biggest inspiration has been typography. I think part of what I love so much about it is that it mixes two of my loves: words and design. My biggest inspiration for the projects I've done so far is Dana Tanamachi, an incredible chalk typographer. Here are the beginnings of my efforts to build a portfolio like hers. :)

Over the summer I helped re-imagine the lobby area outside Student Life, so I did a little typography research and came up with this sign for them.

In progress...

And the almost finished chalk version:

Unfortunately, when I tried to seal the chalk, much of it blew away, and the shaded sections faded a lot. So I ended up going over the chalk with white paint so that it wouldn't smudge. Here it is in its new home. I realized I didn't take any pictures of it, so I stole this one from my mom.

I was thrilled that this sign led to a few side projects for others, too.

Thank you to those who have asked me to work for you! I have had so much fun and am grateful for the opportunity to build a portfolio.

Next up, for the seventh year in a row, I'm hoping to actually design and send out Christmas cards. :)
